John Galliano journeys to Baboushka land

Inspiration:Russia and the Baltic lands with the evening gowns pointing to Scheherazade terrain.

Collection's Composition:Ornate embroideries, tassels, coats with wide panniered hips translating into serious volume, flimsy chudidars, peasant blouses and delicate gowns.

Color Palette:Varied, in addition to the usual fall colors of gray and black there were some surprises in the form of olive green, violet, blue and red.

Pièces de résistance :

Accessories: Coin jewellery, pom-pom lace-up boots and fancy head wear.

Targeted Buyers: The typical Galliano girl, young, adventurous and free spirited.

High Points: John Galliano's Fall collection shatters the notion of Fall necessarily meaning sub zero temperatures, his peasant blouses suggest the inclusion of the tropics where Fall is still hot, humid and sweaty.His use of bright saturated colors too is commendable.

Low Points: Nothing specific to the collection, though the staging of his clothes could have been more elaborate and the safety pin so explicitly seen holding the coin chains together could have been done in a more aesthetic way!!!

Shelve those chunky necklaces , bracelets, rings and bangles and trade them for sequins, beads and more.This spring let your dresses do the talking.And if you can remember what you learnt at your craft classes years back, then use those skills to transform an ordinary slip or corset into an ornamented top.At least that's what some designers did on the Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear runways!! And remember when doing an embellished dress, use minimal accessories or else you might end up looking like a mobile shop!!

Anna Wintour goes Exotic!!

The dress in question is from Prada's Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear collection.The dress is lovely, but the velvet jacket, oh so gross, if Anna wanted to avoid the skin show wouldn't she have been better off with a nice legging or at least a jacket with sharp shoulders?But then that would have made her common, fashion editors should have a perverse dress sense so that no one ever in their sane mind can think of copying their style!! Is it too much to ask for that perverseness to be a bit more kind to the eyes of the beholder, sighhhhhhhhhhh!!
