Tropic of Flowers From Stella!

Inspired by Stella McCartney's Spring Summer 2010 Ready-To-Wear Womenswear

Have you seen the barren trees
Colored a gentle green?
By this woman named Nature
Who exchanged her blackened slate
For a painter's rich color palette?

She labors long under the gentle sun
Whose warm rays caress her into tireless work
For all who have felt a painter's pain
Would know that her task is no mean!

To tinge the fiery red with orange
Splash some yellow on a lemon
Color the flowers to soothe the eyes
And the earth with youth and joy

Oh how Nature churns her colors
To deftly apply on her canvas Earth
Once every year a unique painting she does
Rich in colors and strong in beauty

"Spring" she calls it every time
Oh! I wonder why?

A Night Out...

This spring had been a tough one for you, not only at work trying to keep your job but also on the personal front, frantically despairing to lose all the winter weight gained by indifferently giving in to plum puddings, roasted turkeys and endless bottles of wine. And after the New Year party, you were, all tired, depressed, bloated and heavier by 15 pounds. You stepped on the weighing scale innumerable times, just hoping that the scales might be a bit too hard on you, but the truth was out there, the time to pay for the gluttonous sins committed during the holiday week of Christmas and New Year. You thought of all the new clothes that lay unworn, and that by now are a cool three sizes too small from you, tears well up in your eyes but after momentarily giving in to melancholy, you rebound with determination to melt those extra pounds before the sun got brighter and people basked by the sea, letting the salty air play their hair, in a season called summer.

You gave up on junk, meticulously shopped fresh fruits and vegetables every single day on your way back from work, cooked your own food, counted calories and every morning ran by the Seine river with a regularity that could be likened to the rising of the sun, and now three months later you pride yourself not only for the lost pounds but also for your determination in achieving what you wanted to, you feel you can surmount any obstacle, conquer any mountain, oh what it feels to be light as a feather and fit as a fiddle!!And just when you couldn't wait any longer to show off your toned body, in drops an invite from your friend for an evening of fun at the newly opened club. What better excuse have you got to flash those leggings which now accentuate your lean long legs?

As opposed to the usual LBD that would be spotted on you on such occasions, you decide to blend in a little white into the black that you normally wear at night!! While not exactly a conservative when it comes to dressing, you still feel a bit shaky about those "x-ray" print leggings and decide to show just a tad bit of it by covering it with a long monochrome tunic on top and black over-the-knee boots at the bottom. You neutralise your monochrome clothes by blacking out on accessories, for you still want black to be the dominant color of the evening. Finally you up your funkiness quotient by wearing a hexagonal cuff watch in black and finish the look with a black clutch embellished with golden grommets, and do I need to say which way heads turn when you walk down the street!! Did I hear someone whistle "Downtown Girl"??

P.S:Just a small note of caution - the leggings shown above work best on tall girls with slender thighs, as the vertical plane of the thigh is cut horizontally where the boots meet the thighs owing to the boots being in a much darker color than the leggings, creating an illusion of a shorter, stumpier thigh, to avoid that substitute the skeleton print leggings with black leggings to create an illusion of long endless legs.

Mad about the look? Emulate it as follows:

Spring Trends 2009 : Shining Beauties

Shelve those chunky necklaces , bracelets, rings and bangles and trade them for sequins, beads and more. This spring let your dresses do the talking. And if you can remember what you learnt at your craft classes years back, then use those skills to transform an ordinary slip or corset into an ornamented top.At least that's what some designers did on the Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear runways!! And remember when doing an embellished dress, use minimal accessories or else you might end up looking like a mobile shop!!

I don't like clothes!!

I make my own statement!!

I'm the bead vendor, which color do you want?

Sequins and glue make a great dress!!

Don't I dazzle you?

I borrowed it from a dacoit!!

Show your Tangy Orangey Side

What is spring without bright colors, after all its the time when nature colors herself bright, thawing the cup of optimism that had been frozen by the harsh winter, the gentle beams of sun caressing the beings on earth. The time has come when one cannot wait to get out of all the chunky coats and sweaters to slide into some bright light summery clothes. For all those folks who are eagerly awaiting spring, here's some options to add a boost of color to your wardrobe to make you feel bright, light and happy.

Work to Play...

Recession time invariably leads to introspection into one's state of affairs. You think of all the time gone by, how you were ambitious to climb the social ladder ever since you probably set foot on earth, how you happily skipped playing with your community's kids preferring to dirty your hands in Fermat's theorem, how those ambitions saw you through an ivy league b-school and landed you the much coveted i-banker job right in the heart of Manhattan, how life was suddenly glamorised by Dior purses and caviar lunches and just when you started relishing the "happiness" that you had sought after for so long, the economy plummets and you feel as if the somebody pulled the rug under you!! With salaries dwarfed, bonuses vapourised, work hours increased, the futility of your dreams of a "cosy life" dawn on you.You get no sympathy from anyone, especially when you are one of those lucky few who have a place to go to every morning and another to come back to every evening.Just as you are juggling these thoughts on a late Saturday morning, you are catapulted into reality rather rudely by the sharp buzzing of your cell phone and who else could it be but your BOSS reminding you about that all important presentation on Monday morning subsequently followed by dinner in Pizza Hut(yep, things had gone that stale). During heydays you would jump at such opportunities, willing to showcase your beauty and brains, giving a killer presentation during the day in your structured Armani suit and knocking everyone off their feet with that red Valentino dress in the evening!! Now those times looked distant as if they never existed and dressing is more of a chore than a pleasure.Take cheer girl, times are dark but a little bit of thought dedicated to the dressing department will see you seamlessly through your day to night look with minimal changes. Here's how:

Fall 2008 Ready-To-Wear Shoes - Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney's focus has shifted to minimalism this fall, after last season's detailed floral carving on wooden heels. The heels are prominent this season too but not for the intricacy of the previous season but for the enormous varnished wooden platforms with just a golden strip behind. Her collection emphasised on lot on faux fur which extended to boots as well. The shoes came in mono colors ranging from pale to bright colors.Over all, the shoes could have easily fit the bill of simple and elegant career classics which could easily go unnoticed but for the HUGE PLATFORMS!!!Stella sure has mercy on our feet, for this fall she had let us tower in comfort!!
