Spring Trends 2009 : Shining Beauties

Shelve those chunky necklaces , bracelets, rings and bangles and trade them for sequins, beads and more. This spring let your dresses do the talking. And if you can remember what you learnt at your craft classes years back, then use those skills to transform an ordinary slip or corset into an ornamented top.At least that's what some designers did on the Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear runways!! And remember when doing an embellished dress, use minimal accessories or else you might end up looking like a mobile shop!!

I don't like clothes!!

I make my own statement!!

I'm the bead vendor, which color do you want?

Sequins and glue make a great dress!!

Don't I dazzle you?

I borrowed it from a dacoit!!

Spring Trends 2009 : Go Nude

Spring usually evokes thoughts of bright colors, of lime green, fuchsia, orange and canary yellow. While all these colors are definitely welcome, given the overload of grays and blacks done during Fall, this spring it is worth tucking in some neutral shades in between the brights, for not only do they break the pattern of your dressing, but also avoid you being labelled as "Miss Flash Light", and remember the more extensive your color palette, the broader are your options of mix and match.

One common concern regarding the color is of doing it without looking pale and washed out.Another most used to perception is, think nude, think formals, most cannot think beyond the nude trousers. The beauty of the color is that it can be worked in many different ways, right from a canvas for embellishments(they make them stand out making you the shimmering queen of the evening), to creating contrasting looks with colors like black, violet to just plain nude with interesting details worked in, the options are truly endless.

The important trick in working nude is to subtly contrast the look with your skin tone.If you choose to do nude in a shade close to your skin color, contrast it with black or go in for shimmer or embellishments as they make the look stand out.In case of doing plain vanilla nude, choose a shade at least two shades lighter than your skin tone, and make sure the dress has some detailing in the form of frills, origami folds, ruffles or layering.Still left wondering how to get your nude look right? Learn from the runways of Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear, to play with nude in more ways than one!!

On my way back from the crafts class.

Spot me!!

I'm a girl of sharp contrasts.

I gotta go swimming after the party.

I'm the definition of power dressing.

I'm the centre of the universe.

I'm all tied to myself.

Did I just step out of your dream?

Head to Toe in Louis Vuitton Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear

Spotted Lara Bingle in Sydney at the recently held MTV Australian Awards show in what could be named as Louis Vuitton Spring fest. The star had donned a top, skirt, bag and shoes all from Louis Vuitton's Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear collection.Agreed that the collection was the toast of Spring 2009, but a bit of mix and match can go a long way in showing that you have some original style, instead of making it seem like you had this event to attend and you discover at the last moment that you don't have anything to wear, rush into a nearby Louis Vuitton store and grab everything you need from there, certainly not the way to go for a red carpet event unless of course you are Louis Vuitton's brand ambassador, that too specifically for Spring 2009!!

On an aside, Lara's outfit looks a cheap imitation of the one seen on the runway(on the runway the colors are rich and vibrant as opposed to near dead colors on Lara's outfit). Is it that the runway photos are doctored to look great or that a photographer with an allergy to bright colors had covered the Australian MTV awards and decided to drain the colors off the outfit? I only hope its the latter for Marc's sake and as for Lara, Bingle girl you failed to jingle!!

Spring Trends 2009 : Be a Jeanius

If you had always thought that there were only so many different ways of sporting denim, then think again!!This spring cling on to denim while doing jumpsuits, harem pants, prints, mini dresses, well the list just seems endless. So trade those typical "skinny jeans" look for some variety and you will be convinced that you could live on denim alone this season, without appearing a bore!! Also enjoy your summer in the relaxed fit of boyfriend jeans(in vogue this season) and though, what with recession doing the rounds and the misleading name, while it might be tempting to stealthily flick one from your man's wardrobe, resist the temptation, for unfortunately boyfriend jeans too is cut keeping in mind a female's silhouette(fits snugly around the hips and is relaxed down the legs). And a final piece of advice for all you folks out there, "unisex jeans" cannot exist without the emergence of unisex human. So please don't try to convince yourself and others that its cool to walk around in a man's jeans. Its so NOT!!

Look, there's a new painter in town!!

I have the freedom of movement!!

A stitch in time saves nine!!

There's space for two!!

I love my second skin!!

Straight from the fields!!

Playing the little girl!!

Work to Play...

Recession time invariably leads to introspection into one's state of affairs. You think of all the time gone by, how you were ambitious to climb the social ladder ever since you probably set foot on earth, how you happily skipped playing with your community's kids preferring to dirty your hands in Fermat's theorem, how those ambitions saw you through an ivy league b-school and landed you the much coveted i-banker job right in the heart of Manhattan, how life was suddenly glamorised by Dior purses and caviar lunches and just when you started relishing the "happiness" that you had sought after for so long, the economy plummets and you feel as if the somebody pulled the rug under you!! With salaries dwarfed, bonuses vapourised, work hours increased, the futility of your dreams of a "cosy life" dawn on you.You get no sympathy from anyone, especially when you are one of those lucky few who have a place to go to every morning and another to come back to every evening.Just as you are juggling these thoughts on a late Saturday morning, you are catapulted into reality rather rudely by the sharp buzzing of your cell phone and who else could it be but your BOSS reminding you about that all important presentation on Monday morning subsequently followed by dinner in Pizza Hut(yep, things had gone that stale). During heydays you would jump at such opportunities, willing to showcase your beauty and brains, giving a killer presentation during the day in your structured Armani suit and knocking everyone off their feet with that red Valentino dress in the evening!! Now those times looked distant as if they never existed and dressing is more of a chore than a pleasure.Take cheer girl, times are dark but a little bit of thought dedicated to the dressing department will see you seamlessly through your day to night look with minimal changes. Here's how:

Spring Trends 2009 : Its Black, its White..

A world devoid of color, removed from excesses of all kinds, complexities of every nature, where every question has just two answers an yes or a no!! Wow, how simple is that world, how easy on the mind and clean on the heart, where there are no compromises to be made, no middle path to be chosen, where a person is either good or bad, things are either pretty or ugly.. A life of absolutes, of extremes, of.. Oops I dozed off while gazing at the various monochrome looks paraded on the runways this Spring.Ladies, while we still don't have the "Utopian one-way-or-the-other" world, at least we can incorporate that in our dressing.Stop fussing about all those shades and hues and embrace the basic colors of black and white and see the magic they work on you, the same way they did on these beauties..

All eyes on me!!

Never criss-cross my way..

Anyone for a game of checkers?

Pocket full of roses..

Look, I got my origami lessons right!!

Happy Valentine's Day

People have different ideas of carrying themselves around on Valentine's day, while some in their over zealous effort to look their best (like the girl in the left pic) on D day try some crazy "maple syrup and lemon master cleanse" facial that leaves them so badly burnt that they have to hide their face till the next Valentine's day, others just trade their suits for one strewn with multi colored hearts(one for each of their innumerable Valentines of yore) and go about their business as if its just another day!!!

Whichever type you belong to, a Happy Valentine's Day to all my readers!!

Tailor's Day Out

How else can one explain this atrocity on the runway!!! Designers please leave your Wal-Mart curtains at home and please don't wrap those sweet little fragile things called "Models" in them.Sometimes models work for clothes instead of money, imagine if this model had chosen that path!!I shudder and cross myself and they say models have an easy life!!!
