Spring Trends 2009 : Get Knotty Part 1

The year is 2011, the economy in deep recession and dressing is reduced to saving your modesty rather than an extravagant affair that it once used to be.With bread retailing at $100 a loaf, people have barely anything to eat, let alone wear. The "size zeros" are no longer restricted to the ramps, rather they are the norm of the day.Wealth eroded and with that all vanity too.Dressing for occasion, place, mood, everything seems so distant.People just scrap whatever is left of their dresses, tie them together and wear them."Haute couture" is as extinct as the dodo. There is no concept of "size" any longer, the order of the day being "ONE SIZE FITS ALL".So if the clothes are too big, then they are gathered together and tied, to prevent from tripping and falling. An alien reconnaissancing Earth, had taken the following snaps of people going about their business on one such gloomy "spring of despair".

Tying the pieces together.

Too hungry to bother.

Remembering her scouting days.

Curtains to the rescue.

Nerds take it easy.

Making ends meet.

She's got large clothes to fit into.

Recession Savy Shoe Shopping At Marshall's

Tough times, scare jobs, uncertain future, a dwindling bank balance and still the insatiable need to keep adding to your shoe closet...How does an addicted shopper manage recession?Either by working overtime and getting killed in the process or finding ways to shop smarter.Whenever I mention the idea of a discounted shop, people always conjure images of heaps of clothes piled pell-mell, and shudder and ask me "How exactly do you shop at these stores?" Its a big fallacy to associate shops selling discounted merchandise with disorder. For example, at the Marshall's shoe mega shop, the shoes are neatly ordered and finding the requisite style and size is a breeze and not akin to finding a needle in a haystack. That said, the next question is "Will I find what I want?" Yes, definitely provided you know how to shop at a place like Marshall's.Generally when I shop at a upscale mall, I have a rigid look in mind, I know beforehand what I would be buying and I generally stick to that.On the contrary I would approach Marshall's with an open mind. With an idea of the key looks of the season, I do an initial dry run of the merchandise in the whole shop mentally marking what I would be buying, after which I just pick up my shopping bag and for once shop without guilt, without bothering to look at the price tags and above all not compromising on my favorite designers !! Putting a look together on the fly is so much fun and is one of the key joys of shopping which the internet has unfortunately robbed off late. And the last point to note is that to get the best deals, keep visiting Marshall's more frequently as they get new merchandise almost every other day and who knows, that Prada you were lusting for so long might just be sitting coyly at a corner waiting to be picked up!!! Enjoy your shopping!!

Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear : Metallic Shoes

Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear collection paraded many statement shoes.Shoes made a huge impact and are central in the accessories domain.Thats good news for all the Carrie Bradshaws out there.Gladiators are back with a vengeance - elaborate and grander.Heels are sculptured, taken to a different level with jaw dropping eccentric designs, wedges are sky high and detailed, shoes with ruffles in gold and silver sure don't fail to impress.

Miss Match

The asymmetrical silver metallic dress and the shoes do make a pretty pair on the ramp. But on Rose, the creases on the dress and the too monochromatic look isn't working wonders.Could have added a spurt of color for that glammed up look instead of matching everything to the tee!!!

Fall 2008 Couture Bride

Its the season when wedding vows will be exchanged, hope of a lifetime of happiness cherished and "lived happily ever after" dreamt. What better way to begin your life than a fantastical wedding!!And the wedding always propounds the question of choosing the right dress, after all when you are the star of the day you wouldn't want to be frumpy and drab.So this time around, I looked at Fall 2008 Couture for some wedding appropriate clothes.Fitted at the top and flaring at bottom seems to be work well and so does a voluminous silhouette.

My choices cover fantastical, classic, bold and traditional themes.Pick a dress to match your attitude!!!

Step into Spring

Last month saw the Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear fashion shows in full swing with a multitude of designers showcasing their creative best.We feasted our eyes on the coming season's bags and shoes echoing tribal art, appliques, embroidery, beads etc and at times got enthralled to the point of wanting to leapfrog into spring right away .While its so easy to lose oneself swimming through endless slide shows of costumes and still wondering what trends would emerge prominent, it would help to abstract out the most prominent designs right from clothes to accessories to help one choose and plan in these turbulent times, the chicest spring wardrobe.Thats the intent of this space and in the coming weeks you will be shown which designer's baby you should court and when.Till then, keep it stylish!!!

Spring 2009 Ready-To-Wear - Louis Vuitton

Just when you had thought that bags in two avatars namely monogrammed and embossed were all there was to Louis Vuitton and for fresh quirky fashion one had to look elsewhere, Marc Jacobs(the designer of the collection) springs a surprise that is so very welcome. This collection had all the usual Vuitton fare, only they were morphed into African tribal art and the result was pleasant beyond description.Though the clothes offered an array of options from wide leg pants to short skirts, the collection belonged to the accessories crazy, what with a zillion options of bangles, necklaces, shoes and bags screaming tribal art!!!The shoes were noteworthy, decorated with thin strips of python, feathers and colorful beads.Very tribal and very dreamy. The best of Louis Vuitton on display.

Save your pennies for spring, for Louis Vuitton's spring accessories are too good to miss!!
